We had been talking about getting up for sunrise since before we had arrived at Siem Reap, but hadn't yet done it,this morning was our last chance. We were up at 04.15 and out the door and on our bicycles by 04.30. As if cycling 24 kms the day before wasn't enough! We went to Phnom Bakheng, a small temple set on top of a hill to watch the sun rise over Angkor Wat. Unfortunately the weather gods were no longer with us and all we saw was a bit of red behind the clouds and that was it. We went back to Angkor Wat, took a few photos as a consolation prize and headed back to town for a bit of a nap. Deciding that we had had a hard morning we went off into town and had a foot massage, followed by lunch. Then it was over to the children's hospital to give blood. I had been sceptical of this at first, but the people running the hostel said that they did it on a regular basis, so that was good enough for me. The lab technician who did it was a real pro, he found a vein on the first go and didn't leave me with a bruise, as normally happens. Good guy!!
In the evening we went to the night market with Rob,Tan and Lee and actually ate dinner out for a change. Then of course it was back to the hotel for more drinks. The next morning was another early start, we caught a taxi to the border, walked into Thailand and then a bus to Bangkok.
We were dropped off at Kao San rd, back packer central. Despite having been to Bangkok before, I had never been here and have resolved to never go back. It was full of hippies and Brit guys with their shirts off. Although, if you're looking for some fake ID or a fake degree, this is the place to come to. And they're ridiculously cheap too. Then it was onto another bus to the airport and our flight to Chiang Mai. Betsy was able to take her ruck sack on as hand luggage, as we had done in China, but I had to check mine as we had some toiletries over 100ml. If we hadn't of had those I could have taken my ruck sack on as hand luggage as well. But the flight was short and uneventful. We landed, I retrieved my luggage and we were met by someone from our hostel.Great! We went straight there, thought it was a bit quiet but didn't think anymore about it as it was about 11pm. And so off to bed, I was in my 3rd country in under a week with my birthday behind me. It was June already and we had been travelling for 2 months.
