Saigon

May 28th was another day with an early start. Considering that I am officially on holiday, I am not getting a lot of lie ins! There's something wrong with that and I am not happy. We got off the bus and found a guest house, again we had to have someone to let us in. I don't know if there is a terrifically high crime rate in Vietnam or what, but the general populace seems to take home security very seriously.
Where we stayed in Hanoi, for example, the front courtyard was surrounded by an 8 foot wall and a large metal gate, that was padlocked at all times. Then the front door had a metal grill over it, that was also padlocked at night and then the front door was locked as well. The door in our room, to the balcony, had a huge padlock on it, despite being at least 40 feet off the ground. Then the door to the interior of the house also had a padlock. And in the countryside, a majority of the house had courtyards, which looked secure. However, it was the locked gate to our hostel in Saigon that would cause me the most concern.
We spent the day looking around Saigon and sorting out what we wanted to do and the next stage of the trip to Cambodia. We had dinner at an awesome restaurant that Meghan had recommended. We walked back to our hostel and had to have the lady open the gate for us. It had been a long day.
