June 25th and once again Lo was our driver for the day. In the morning we started we a visit to the crocodile farm to see them being fed. It is always amazing to see any wild animal up close. but some of the conditions the animals are living in are not ideal. For example they had cages with just 1 monkey in, which is not good for a social animal like that. In the main building they had a crocodile "museum" which I found interesting and well put together until I came to the photos. There were photos of people who had been attacked by crocodiles or dug out of a crocodile's stomach, not pretty.
Then we went to lunch, I had Kolo Mee, my new favourite food and it was off into the hills to see a traditional longhouse. These structures can be as long as 40 - 50 metres and are basically a row of terraced houses on stilts. And although these structures are still built in the traditional way the inhabitants do enjoy things such as satellite tv and have a grocery store and bar. Also on stilts. After the longhouse Lo took us to the Orang Utan sanctuary, this was what I had been looking forward to all day. And he timed it perfectly, we arrived to see a mother and baby sat on the ground eating. I was within 3 - 4 metres of her, it was amazing. It was so great to have the opportunity to see this animal and in an almost natural setting. The Orangs live in the forest and only come down to feed, so if they can fend for themselves the keepers generally don't see them. I think it's a good balance between being able to view these animals and protect them but not putting them into captivity.
In the evening it was dinner and shopping followed by drinks at the back of a Chinese temple. We certainly got to see a lot of different eating and drinking establishments when we were hanging out with Lo. It was an interesting last evening. But Friday morning came and Lo picked us up for one last time. We went for brunch and then to the airport. I was really sad to say goodbye to Lo, he had been a fantastic hots and for me, had really made the trip to Kuching. The trip had been everything Meghan had said it would be and more.
Betsy and I got checked in a settle down to wait for our flight. It was all on time and soon we were landing in Kuala Lumpur and wondering about where Betsy needed to go to make her connection to her Bangkok flight. In the end it was really simple. Her Air Asia flight went from another terminal and there were plenty of buses running between the 2 terminals. We got Betsy checked in and we said our goodbyes. It felt strange to be saying goodbye and to know that from now on we would be travelling separately.
I caught the bus in KL city and went to meet my friend Prema.
