This is me,obviously!! In my bunk on the train. Our small compartment had six bunks, with Betsy and I both being in the top bunk. The top bunk being over 2 metres off the ground and only reached through climbing on metal posts stuck out from the walls of the compartment and the lower peoples bunks. Interesting.
However the train set off on time and I found it a bonus being so close to the air conditioning unit. We awoke to a wet, warm, rainy morning. We arrived in Xian over 2 hours late and poured forth from the train station. We didn't see the guy from our hostel, who was supposed to meet us, so we got a cab there. The hostel staff were great and we got checked in. We again had some over priced hostel food for lunch and decided what to do for the afternoon. We had only come to Xian to see the terracotta warriors and since we didn't fancy doing that the same day as we had arrived, we donned our raincoats and set off to the local area. We walked to see the bell tower, which we didn't even bother going into. For some reason, paying to get into tourist attractions in China was often as,if not more expensive then, your room for the night. So in Shanghai, the World financial observatory cost us 15 pounds but our hostel only cost us 5 pounds per night. Go figure!
After the bell tower we walked past the drum tower, took a few photos and walked on by. We walked to the muslim quarter and took a look at the mosque, which was truly beautiful. Afterwards we went back to the hostel. For dinner we went to the restaurant across the street, which turned out to have really good food and cheap beer. Could my life get any better?
The next day taught me that it could not!!
