May 10th. We woke early, it was still raining a little. We walked to the train station and caught the bus on the west side. Unfortunately we got off at the wrong place, took advice from a Chinese lady who spoke English and took a cab to see a tomb of the Qin emperor. The tomb was totally uninteresting and there were no foreign tourists there, which should have told us something. Any way we took a look and decided that by following the tour buses we could find the terracotta army museum. This we did, but by now the rain was pouring. Luckily for us the exhibition is housed in 3 huge, hangar like buildings.
The warriors were discovered in the 70's by some farmers trying to sink a well, the precise spot is still marked today in the main hall.It was impressive, but once you've seen one warrior, you've pretty much seen them all. This is a bit unfair, as all of the bodies are the same, but they sculpted different hands and facial features for all of them. And considering that they have only put 6000 figures back together so far, It is fairly impressive. There is more to discover.
In the afternoon we headed back to Xian and got our stuff together. We caught the 5pm shuttle bus out to the airport. When we got there, we discovered that our booking had been cancelled and we had to buy new flight tickets. Just as well we had got there early. We got the flight to Nanning, via Gungxhou. We arrived in Nanning about 10.30pm and got a shuttle bus into the town centre.By the time we arrived there, the ladies of the night were out and about. We got an overpriced cab to our hostel and settled down for the night. The next day we had an early start with the bus ride to Hanoi.Another new country.
