The start of my last day in Victoria wasn't too early, I had finally managed to work out how to stop the inflatable mattress on deflating on me. So I woke comfortable and rested and not sleeping on the hard wood floor. After breakfast I headed into town and to the ferry office to arrange my passage to Seattle that night. I then went to the British Columbia Museum. At the moment it is divided into three sections. The first section covers BC's animals, plants and eco - systems. It's really cool, you can walk through a "forest" a "seashore" and see what plants and animals would live there. The next section is concentrated on Canada's native peoples. The artifacts on display are interesting but the end of the exhibit was poorly done. The exhibit discusses a treaty that was signed between the native peoples and the Canadian government and the native peoples reaction to that. There is a lot of sentimental guff, but absolutely no information on what the treaty did and why this was a good thing. I thought that they left the story half told, maybe they just presumed that all visitors to the museum have a certain level of local knowledge. This is very shortsighted!
I headed back to the house early, I chatted with Nik as we waited for James to return. We then gathered up Louie and went to the park for Louie's daily walk. Louie is a lucky dog, he either gets to go to the beach or the dog park every day. Then we loaded up Louie and my ruck sack and headed into town. Nik and James got dinner at Blue Fish,Red Fish, I did to but I got my to go as time was running short. We walked back to the ferry terminal, I grabbed my bag and ran in. It was 17.40 and I was supposed to be there at 17.00. I checked in my bag and then had to go through American immigration, I was totally unprepared for it, I thought that I would go through immigration when I got to Seattle. I had to stop, dig out my passport, complete my entry form and juggle my fish and chips. The immigration guy was really nice and gave me another ninety days in the U.S.. Yes!! I then ran onto the ferry and settled down for the ride.
I was sat opposite a local couple and they told me that Victoria had been enjoying unusual weather and that normal the crossing is a lot rougher, it was perfectly smooth. We left Victoria at 6pm and the sun started to set as we left harbour. It was so cool, on one side of the boat it was dark while on the other it was a brilliant orange. We got into Seattle at about 8.30pm and I walked back to the hostel I had stayed in before, checked in and dumped my stuff. I was up early the next morning for my flight to Salt Lake City. I love being in a city where you can ride the bus to the airport and it's normal fare, not some inflated amount. Exactly as it should be.
