San Diego

The next morning I woke up before Andy and had breakfast with Jeffrey, his landlord. He is originally from Sacramento in the north of California but says he can't go back now as the city is too cold for him. He works for a recruitment agency and seems to be fairly together, nice guy.
When Andy got his act together we went out to meet some of his friends for lunch, Alex and Jose. We went to a San Diego landmark, "Phil's BBQ", where we had to queue for about thirty minutes. It was well worth the wait, but I shouldn't be surprised, I don't think that Andy knows any bad restaurants.Andy and I shared some ribs and a plate of fries and still we didn't finish everything, the servings were huge, but so delicious. The ribs were fantastic and is well worth a return visit in the future.
In the afternoon Andy went and met his "little brother" and he left me with the car. It was time to do some shopping and browsing in the book shop. I didn't find anything I wanted to buy but I got a coffee and relaxed. After Andy dropped Ryan off we went for a late dinner, I finally got to have my first fish taco. Fish tacos are San Diego's speciality and are so good. it may be an odd concept, but it works. We picked up a bottle of wine and it was back to the house for a quiet end to the day.
Monday 17th August and I cannot believe that I have been here three weeks already. And loving it. Andy and I headed to Coronado, a small island "island" linked to San Diego by a thin strip of sand. Half of the island is an exclusive, well off town while the other half is a U.S. naval base. It is also home to the Hotel Del Coronado, where the film "Some like it hot" was filmed fifty years ago. Part of the joy of Coronado is the drive there, you reach it across a high arched bridge, giving amazing views of downtown San Diego. I was lucky, Andy drove so I was able to enjoy the scenery. We sunbathed the afternoon away and then went to the hotel for Mohito's. I really getting to like those, I think they maybe my new favourite drink. Since we hadn't eaten all day we went to a Mexican restaurant that one of Andy's friends had recommended for dinner. Unsurprisingly, the food was great, especially as it was accompanied by another Mohito. What can you say, a great end to a great day.
