San Antonio

Moraya had classes Tuesday evening so I met her at the University of the Incarnate Word, I was waiting in the car park when she drove up in a pick up truck. Yeah! For some reason I have a fascination with pick up trucks, don't know why but I would really like to own one. We dropped by her house so she could pick up some clothes and I got to meet her parents and brother. We were going to stay with her Aunt Seta. We had dinner and spent the rest of the evening watching bad t.v.. I love bad American t.v., it requires no thinking of any kind and so is pure entertainment. We watched "Man Vs Food" as the presenter had visited San Antonio and gone to three restaurants in the city. Moraya was worried about what I would do the next day as she had work in the morning and classes in the afternoon. I said not to worry and that i would be fine as long as I had access to a computer and a t.v.. She set me up in her Aunt Olives house, next door to her Aunt Seta's and I spent the whole day on the computer. I was so busy catching up on uploading my photos and trying to update this blog that I didn't have time for any t.v..It was a productive day, I couldn't believe how much I had done and yet the blog still wasn't up to date.
Don, Moraya's brother and their cousin Jerome took me out for dinner. They took me for a Texas speciality, Chicken Fried Steak, they were fascinated that I had never had it before. The restaurant is really a diner, Don ordered for all of us. He only ordered one main course for the three of us to share but since he said that the steak was huge I trusted him. He also bought a "Cinnamon Roll", this single roll was double the size of the average family cake in the U.K. and must easily have weighed three pounds. The steak was brought out on one plate and the sides on another, it was huge, about ten by six inches and maybe and inch thick. It's not a real steak, it's rather, a large hamburger patty, breaded, deep fried and covered in a white sauce. It was good and there was a lot of left overs. Moraya had eaten earlier in the evening and didn't want any of our left overs when she got back home. We spent the resat of the evening watching more t.v. together. It was lovely, I was getting to chill since I had seen what I wanted to in the city.
Moraya didn't have work or school the next day so she took me sight seeing. Outside of the main city there are another four missions, so we went to take a look. As I said before the missions were built with a view of extending the reach of Christianity in the "New World". So they all have a chapel, a well and living quarters usually within some sort of compound. In the suburbs of SA there are four other missions. Moraya and I goofed around taking photos and just generally enjoying a nice day. We went to a Korean restaurant for lunch and to a Thai restaurant for Bubble tea, one of Moraya's favourites. I had my tea without the bubbles, not a big fan of tapioca. It was another evening spent in front of the t.v.. Maybe not exciting but enjoyable none the less.
Friday afternoon and Moraya took me to Dairy Queen as I haven't eaten there before, she said that I had to have a "Blizzard" and now having eaten one I have to agree with her. Next we went to the mall, I haven't had so much fun shopping in ages. I seem to have lost the will to shop, every time I think about buying something I remember that I have to carry it and I don't want to carry it. My rucksack is currently forty pounds and it doesn't need to be heavier. I am already thinking of the stuff that I am going to throw away before my return flight and I can't wait, some of my clothes are downright disgusting, even when I do get to wash them! Moraya was really good to window shop with, we even played around in a perfume store and I now have a perfume that I want to buy. I miss perfume and smelling nice. I want to walk around in a cloud of nice perfume.
After we had finished our window shopping Moraya let me drive her truck around the mall car park. The short drive reinforced my desire to own a truck. The driving position is awesome, the sense of power is even better and I doubt that the sense of security could be bettered by anything other than a Hummer. On the downside she said that it only gets fifteen miles to the gallon and the acceleration isn't that great. And of course I probably would have issues parking it in any country other than America. We watched some t.v. at Aunt Olives house while the two aunts were making dinner. It's a tradition that the family comes over on a Friday night to eat and play Mahjong. They tried to teach me how to play Mahjong but I either suck or was just very unlucky. I think it was luck myself. I had a good day.
